Dr. Mark Pogson
Dr. Mark Pogson (Reservoir Engineer) has an MSc in Petroleum Engineering (Imperial College, UK) and a PhD in Physical Chemistry (Leicester, UK). Mark has 20 years experience in the industry and began his career with British Gas (UK), working on the technical and commercial aspects of gas contracts. He then moved to Western Australia to work as a staff reservoir engineer for Ampolex Ltd. He subsequently worked as a reservoir engineer for Woodside Energy Ltd., Mobil E&P Australia Ltd. and finally Premier Oil Ltd. Since then Mark has worked as an independent consultant to numerous large and small oil and gas companies, and also several service companies.
Dr. Mike Dempsey
Dr. Mike Dempsey (Reservoir Engineer) has 35 years experience and holds a PhD in Mathematics (University College Wales, UK), an MEng in Petroleum Engineering (Heriot-Watt, UK) and an MBA (Strathclyde, UK). Mike worked as a reservoir engineer for Britoil (Glasgow, UK), as a field engineer for Aramaco (Saudi Arabia) and then as a reservoir engineer for BP internationally (London, Egypt, Quarter, Holland), during which time he became involved with their in-house teaching programme. For the last 18 years Mike has been in academia, conducting research and teaching in the area of finance. Starting as a lecturer in the department of Business and Economic Studies at Leeds University (UK), he then moved on to become associate professor and head of the finance school at Griffith University, (Queensland, Australia). Mike has an extensive publication’s list and has been successful on numerous occasions in attracting funding for further research study. In the 2005 Securities Industry Research Centre of Asia-Pacific (SIRCA) survey Mike was ranked 4th in Australia and New Zealand.
Dr. Andrew Wadsley
Dr. Andrew Wadsley (Petroleum Engineer) completed an MSc and PhD in Mathematics (Warwick, UK) and thereafter joined Shell as a well-site petroleum engineer (Brunei) before moving to Shell’s head office (Netherlands) to work on a variety of enhanced oil recovery studies. He then worked for Intercomp Resource Development and Engineering (UK) as a Senior Reservoir Engineer and Lecturer (simulation and fluid properties), before becoming the Technology Manager for International Petroleum Engineering Consultants (UK). With 30 years experience in the oil and gas industry he has spent the last twenty years as an independent consultant and during this time he has established an international reputation for the quality of his consultancy and teaching services. He has personally developed a fully integrated surface / sub-surface suite of reservoir simulation software which he has used to great effect in his consultancy work and training programmes.
Dr. Joe Allan
Dr. Joe Allan (Chemical Engineer) has 30 year’s experience and a BSc in Chemical Engineering (Heriot-Watt, UK) and a PhD (UMIST, UK) in the same field. He began his career in the oil and gas industry with Britoil (BNOC, subsequently BP) as a senior petroleum engineer, developing expertise in all areas of production technology needed to service a wide range of North Sea developments. He was also involved in technical training and in developing sophisticated electrical submersible and jet pump software simulators. Joe then spent several years with consultancy companies, further specializing in jet pump technology, before becoming a co-founder of Helix-RDS. Under Joe’s directorship his company carried out a wide range of projects, most notably in the area of artificial lift. This highly successful consultancy, which has offices in Aberdeen (UK) and Perth (Australia), has become well known for the excellent service it continues to offer industry.
Dr. Alan Tait
Dr. Alan Tait (Sedimentologist) received a PhD in Sedimentology (Glasgow, UK) and then commenced work as a development geologist in Angola before joining Shell as a sedimentologist and petrographer. With Shell he worked on all their major fields in the North Sea and in Borneo. Alan has 35 year’s experience and for the last 25 years he has worked as an independent consultant, based in Australia, and has amassed a wealth of knowledge. During this time he was made an associate professor in the department of Petroleum Engineering at Curtin University, and toured nationally as the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia’s (PESA’s) distinguished lecturer. Alan is a member of many professionally recognised geological societies, in particular the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS).
Doug Berringer
Doug Berringer (Geologist) is the Founder and a Principal of MBA Petroleum Consultants. He has more than 20 years experience in the petroleum industry and has undertaken all facets of geological work, from wellsite and operations to prospect evaluation, risk analysis and basin analysis, JV representation and project management in development and exploration. He has worked on all Australian petroleum basins and in South East Asia and Italy. Doug is an active member of AAPG and has been a treasurer of PESA.
Wal Muir
Wal Muir (Geophysicist) is the Founder and a Principal of MBA Petroleum Consultants. He is an experienced and highly motivated petroleum professional with 25 years in the industry. He specializes in the evaluation of the value and risks associated with exploration acreage. He has specific skills in seismic interpretation, risk analysis, play and prospect evaluation. Until founding MBA, he was Exploration and New Ventures Manager for Petroz NL. He has worked on all Australian petroleum basins and in South East Asia, the North Sea, Italy, Falklands and East Africa. Wal Muir has been a federal president of PESA, and is a Distinguished member of PESA. He is also member of ASEG and QUPEX.
Stephen Adams
Stephen Adams (Petrophysicist) has worked as a Petrophysicist for over 20 years, with much of this time spent as an independent consultant. After gaining an MSc in Physics (Auckland, NZ) Steve joined Shell International and was trained as a Petrophysicist. He then worked in this discipline internationally for several years and during this time was also posted to Shell’s head office where he co-authored the technical manual “Capillary Pressure and Saturation-Height Functions”, which is still regarded as a seminal work on the topic. Steve left Shell to work as an independent consultant and since then has provided advice to a variety of companies in Africa, Asia, Australasia, the Middle East and Europe. Steve has built up an excellent reputation for his professionalism, comprehensive technical work and documentation, and for delivering practical petrophysical training courses.
Toni Kaliszewski
Toni Kaliszewski (Geophysicist) holds an honours degree in Mathematical Physics (University of South Australia) and a Masters in Geophysics (University of New South Wales, Australia). He has worked for many years in the oil and gas industry, holding senior positions at Esso Australia and Delhi Petroleum. During this time he developed a broad range of expertise, from the planning and supervision of geophysical surveys, through to detailed geophysical modelling, reservoir engineering and simulation. He also specialized in project evaluation and economic modelling, skills which he now uses to great effect as an independent consultant to major banks and industry. His most recent activities are as a risk management consultant to the chartered accountants, KMT Partners, and as the general manager for the Australian Fishing Enterprise.
Eamonn Montague
Eamonn Montague (Reservoir Engineer) graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Geology (RMIT, Victoria, Australia) and an Honours Degree in Petroleum Geology (NPCGG, University of Adelaide, South Australia), Eamonn joined the industry with Santos as a well-site petroleum engineer and has accumulated 20 years of experience. He subsequently moved to Reservoir Management Ltd. (Aberdeen, UK) to take up a reservoir engineering role servicing offshore North Sea fields. During this time Eamonn worked on a range of oil and gas fields, further developing his skills in reservoir analysis and simulation, before returning to Australia to take up a Senior Reservoir Engineering staff position with Mobil (Perth). Eamonn then became a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Curtin University, prior to becoming an independent consultant.
